Unless it is

We are strongly committed to the Development of GREAT MUSIC here at Broadway
Joes and we want to form LONG TERM PROMOTIONAL relationships with all the Bands
and Acts we get behind.
Broadway Joes is a 200 + capacity room, and can be very depressing
to play when it’s empty.
Therefore please think about how many fans you can pull into
Broadway Joes before you ask for a gig here. If you are just getting established,
it may be better for you to play our open mic on Tuesdays or one of our battle of
the bands and build up a fan base before you try to get your own weekend show here.
What kind of music do you book? –
We book what we consider to be the best National, Regional,
and local bands of ALL styles.
We look for Exciting, Energetic, Crowd Pleasing bands who have an
intense and borderline shameless desire to promote themselves. If it’s a good show and it makes
sense, we do it.
Do you book touring bands? – YES WE DO and we love them – BUT –
if you are a touring band, you will need to have your poop together and give us
reasons why you won’t be playing in a big empty room. Distribution, radio, decent PR,
a label, some infrastructure behind you, some history of playing other clubs here,
lots of college friends in Buffalo – these are some great reasons why we’ll want
to book your band.
How does my band get a gig at Broadway Joe’s?
- Send us a LINK, a LINK - A LINK - A LINK – Not
a file – again, A LINK, NOT A FILE – A link to your EPK (Electronic
Press Kit), and to where your music is posted online. If you send us unsolicited attached
files, your mail will not be read.
If you don’t have a website with music posted on it, that’s probably
a good indicator that you aren’t ready for primetime. Send this link to
sam@bjoes.com
– Give us a month or so to digest it (sometimes it’s faster, sometimes it’s slower)
and then send a followup email.
Please DO NOT add that email address to your band’s mailing list. I didn’t ask to be on it, so don’t put
me on it.
So I’ve emailed you a dozen times, I’ve called and left messages and I STILL don’t
have a gig at Broadway Joe’s, What the F*&k??
– Hey, be cool, have some patience, and understand
that there are hundreds of thousands of bands and only one of us. We can’t possibly give EVERY
band a gig, and sometimes your music may just not be what we are looking for. Don’t
give up, but don’t take it personally either.
Distinguish yourself in the scene a bit, come hang out here, play
some shows at other clubs, build it up, get some press, make some stuff happen for
your act, and we’ll hop on board eventually.
How will I drive you completely insane and insure that my band NEVER gets a gig
at Broadway Joe’s? - Please limit your attempts to contact
us to ONCE A WEEK.
Please don’t speed dial the booking line hoping somebody will eventually
pick up.
Keep your communications short and to the point.
Again, understand that we can’t give everyone a gig, and sometimes
your music may just not be what we are looking for. Don’t give up, but don’t take
it personally either.
If you grow in other clubs or other scenes, that’s fine, and we wish
you the best of luck.
I know I can pack Broadway Joe’s on a Saturday Night, why do I have to open a show,
share a bill, or play a weekday show? - We hold
the hoop up really high and we want you to Bust Your Ass to jump through it. We’ll
help you of course, but we want you to put the same effort in when you finally ARE
playing on good nights. If your fans are committed enough to you, they'll
come out and see you!
Once I get a gig, what’s expected of me? -
PROMOTE THE LIVING
HECK OUT OF YOURSELF!
Cover the town in posters.
Bulletin like crazy on MySpace.
Call all of your friends in the area – you’d be surprised at how many will come
out to support you. Remember, friends
can be fans, too. Go to other shows
like yours and give out handbills and/or demo’s.
Put up posters at record stores.
Get creative!
****Send us posters, send us
jpegs of your band and your logo.
Show up on time for soundcheck.
Leave your ego at the door. Give your fans an amazing show. Do
everything within your power to put as many thirsty heads in here as you can – we’ll
be doing the same on our end.
HOW DRAW WORKS – “RADIUS”
– NO OTHER SHOWS FOR THREE WEEKS BEFORE OR TWO AFTER
Your band should never play any shows in the
Buffaloarea (15 mile radius of the club) within 3 weeks before or 2 weeks after your Broadway
Joe’s date. This is to ensure a MAXIMUM
attendance at your gig. In addition,
you should not list your next
Buffalo
area appearance on your webpage or any emails nor printed flyer materials until
AFTER your Broadway Joe’s date is played.
This is also to ensure MAXIMUM attendance.
Failure to comply with this will severely impact whether and how quickly we bring
you back to Broadway Joe’s.
PROMOTIONAL MATERIALS
Your band is EXPECTED to provide the following Promotional
Materials – failure to do so will likely result in us not taking your next request
to play the club very seriously, unless you mob the place with thirsty fans.
